It's bad news for Good fans

Looks as if it's bad news for fans of the Matthew Good Band.
Universal
Music Canada confirms that the Vancouver rockers have packed it in, after months
of strife between frontman Matt Good and his bandmates.
As reported on
www.canoe.ca late last week, Good will continue to make records for Universal. A
spokesperson for the label said yesterday that it's too early to tell whether
that will be as a solo act or with a new band.
Those following Good's
career lately won't be surprised by the band's demise.
The MGB breakup
saga began last August, when guitarist Dave Genn walked out as the band were
finishing work on their current album, The Audio Of Being. Things were patched
up and Genn rejoined before the album's October release, only to split for good
in November.
In an interview last September, Good told The Sun that
making The Audio Of Being "broke the band up. At the time I went to lengths to
deny it," he said. "For, like, four days, there was no band at all."
It
appears now with the recent departure of drummer Ian Browne, the denial is over
-- Good even posted news of a looming split on his Web site two weeks ago.
It's rumoured that the singer will continue working with bassist Rich
Priske. While there was talk of a forthcoming Good solo album amid last fall's
upheaval, he may adopt a new band name for future work.
As early as
1996, Good confessed in a Sun interview that he wasn't comfortable with the
Matthew Good Band name and hoped it could ultimately be shortened to "MGB."
Following the success of albums Underdogs and Beautiful Midnight, Good's
cantankerous outbursts about the Canadian music industry led to numerous
mud-slinging matches with other bands, and gave him a reputation for being
volatile both on and off stage.
