The Matthew Good Band has parted ways with lead guitarist Dave Genn.
In
a pair of similarly worded messages posted both at the band's official website
(www.matthewgoodband.com) and the fan site www.runningforhome.net, Good broke the
news to fans.
"Due to the rise of certain events I will clarify some
things. Has David and the band parted company? Yes, we have," Good said in the
posting at runningforhome.net.
"Rich, Ian, and myself wish Dave nothing
but the utmost happiness in life and an extremely prosperous future in whatever
he endeavors to do. I would like to say that this news is brand spanking new,
but it's been a while in the making, to be honest," Good said.
There are
currently no plans to replace Genn.
In the meantime, Ryan Dahle
(Limblifter, The Age Of Electric) will fill in at a scheduled Sept. 15 show in
Saskatoon, the statement said, adding the break with Genn will not jeopardize
the Oct. 30 release of MGB's long-awaited new album, "The Audio Of Being." (Good
told JAM! in June that he, Dahle, and 54-40's Matt Johnson had hoped to form a
"West Coast Can-rock supergroup").
"No, we will not be doing any of
(Dahle's) songs. Being that he's a friend he's helping out, nothing more ... The
record will be released as scheduled and we will be touring it in the near
future."
Good also revealed plans for an MGB live album, tentatively
expected before Christmas.
As for fans who will take Genn's departure as
an excuse for gossip and innuendo, Good had a characteristically sharp warning.
"Now, I realize that there are those that will do their very best to
talk as if they know something about us as a band and how we go about things.
But I would say to you that you might consider holding your tongue and pondering
this.
"Would you rather we just call it quits? To us the idea is beyond
ridiculous. We are excited about what the future holds and are anxious to tour
the new record. I realize that Dave will be missed. I will miss him as well. But
there it is. And as long as I possess the ability to write songs, this band will
exist."
Meanwhile, Good is planning a book tour to promote the Oct. 1
release of his collection "At Last There Is Nothing Left To Say," which is
described as manifestos, both previously published at his website and some brand
new material.
