Fans of the Matthew Good Band are worried about the group's future following
comments singer Matt Good made during an online chat with JAM! Music on Monday.
The bulletin board at the MGB fan site RunningForHome.net was buzzing
Tuesday over Good's remarks about the group's new album, "The Audio Of Being,"
and prospects for the band's future.
In response to questions from fans,
Good said he had, at best, mixed feelings about the new album, revealed that the
group has no plans to tour, and that he had begun work on a new album that could
end up as a solo record.
"From what Matt has been saying in the live
chat, one can speculate that something is wrong (or maybe he's just having a bad
day). But the band not talking, no tour plans, recording by himself, not fond of
the new album ... doesn't sound good to me," said one poster identified as Ben
Funk Torres.
When asked directly by JAM! Music about the group's future,
Good declined to comment on the record.
This isn't the first time in
recent history that MGB fans have had cause for concern. Earlier this summer, it
was announced that guitarist Dave Genn had quit. Days later, he was back in the
fold.
Then while doing advance press for the release of "The Audio Of
Being," Good told JAM! Music that in addition to Genn's temporary departure, the
group itself had busted up for a time, although he made it clear that he felt
those problems had been overcome.
"I hope Dave isn't thinking of leaving
the band again," a fan identified as Robot Child posted.
"This has
actually really gotten me worried; Matt's comments seem so fatalistic when it
comes to the band and its future. If MGB broke up, I think I would have a heart
attack ... NO! I can't allow myself to think so negatively! Maybe if we just all
think happy thoughts things will get better ... yes, think happy thoughts.
"If the problems really run as deep as they seem to, it'll probably be
pretty hard to put the differences aside."
"Kinda creeps me out just
thinking about it," added Carmelina.
"Lets hope that this falling out is
just one of those things friends do and not like a breaking up of the Beatles --
where everyone splits and there is no true reunion ever because by the time the
band realizes what they've lost, one of them (is) dead."
Although Good
never directly said the group was finished, his comments have some diehard MGB
fans thinking the unthinkable.
"The main idea about the possibility of a
break-up, which I can't push out of my head, is the fact the I would never again
feel the greatest feeling in the world: the atmosphere of an MGB show," a fan
called Assholedom wrote.
"I would give anything to be certain that I
could feel it again."
